Mel Fisher was an American treasure hunter born in Indiana. He was originally a chicken farmer there and left to open the first diving shop in California. His most amazing find was the discovery of the shipwreck remains of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha. It was a Spanish galleon that wrecked in 1622. The items recovered from the wreck had an estimated worth of $450 million. It included 114,000 Spanish silver coins, 1000, silver bars, 40 tons of gold and silver, Colombian emeralds, gold and silver artifacts, and gold coins.
The wealthiest portion of the ship, the stern castle, has yet to be discovered. The stern castle is said to have contained 17 tons of silver bars, 128,000 silver coins, 60 pounds of emeralds, and about 35 boxes of gold. The Mel Fisher invest team encourages investors to join in the dive and search for the additional remains of the Atocha. Investors are allowed to keep all their discoveries as long as it is not six times the value of their original investment.
